BERRIKER |
Jacob
Berriker was my great great grandfathet. He first lived in Philadelphia,
PA in 1828 and later moved to Maryland. (We know from an old letter,
addressed to Jacob at Brick Meeting House, East Nottingham, Cecil
County, Maryland, that he lived there in October 1837.) Jacob worked for
James Trimble who owned a farm called Rose Bank. Trimble also
established the Rosebank Cemetery. Jacob worked as a caretaker at the
farm; later moved into the caretaker house for the cemetery and worked
there until he died in 1872. He and his wife Hester are buried in the
Zion United Methodist Cemetery. His son John helped lay the cornerstone
for the Rosebank ME church in 1891. |

FERGUSON |
John
Ferguson born 1795 in Maryland married Ann (surname unknown). Last census
I found him on was 1860 Cecil Co, Md. His children on the 1850 Census were
Wesley, Mary E., John W., and Theodore. I know from the 1840 Census he had
2 older daughters that weren't on the 1850 Cecil Co Census. I checked the
1783 tax records and cannot find any Ferguson's (any spelling), but I do
find Ferguson's on the 1790 Census. I know that John may have a
brother/cousin named James that lived in the same area as he did. Any help
with John's parents, and when John and Ann died/where buried, and if James
IS a brother - would be greatly appreciated. |

KIRK |
I am trying to get past Levi Kirk, born January 19,1801, I believe somewhere in Maryland. His parents are eluding
me to this point. Levi married Elizabeth Gray, born in Delaware, in 1829. They were married by a Rev. Barrett. This information is documented. The 1850
census has him living in North East. His name is listed as "William" but we know this is Levi since the ages and names of the children living with them
at the time are all correct. In addition, his daughter, Sarah, who married John Roberts, is listed just above him in the census; though her age is
incorrect. Levi eventually wound up in Chesapeake City, where he was the bridge tender. His son, John Wesley Kirk, and his grandson (John's son) Howard
Wilbur Kirk, were pilots on the C and D Canal. Howard, my grandfather, moved to Philadelphia and, in 1901, to Delanco, New Jersey. Levi is buried, along
with his wife Elizabeth, in the Bethel Cemetery in Chesapeake City. His tombstone is inscribed, Captain Levi Kirk. However, it is a family tradition for
some to use their middle names instead of their first. I had two uncles and two aunts who did just that. Thus, it may be possible that Levi may have
been christened, "William Levi". I would sure like to solve the puzzle of his parents. |
